Is there something wrong w/ me?

Ok...here it goes...umm...hmmmmm... uhhhh....(think KStew-like stuttering and blinking).....

Ok Ok Ok...I can't get into fan fiction. WHAT???

"You can't get into fan fiction? WTF? I KILL YOU!

I'm so trying not to say something about how Jacksper looks right here... DS-ish???

Jacksper, you're right...I CAN'T GET INTO FAN FICTION! *GASP!* I admit it....(bows head....)

Here's how I feel, and please do me a favor and actually read all of it: I.......um......Well, unless the story closely relates to the real characters, I tend to lose interest quickly. I started to read "Wide Awake" and just couldn't continue (I'll understand if you dis-own me LatchkeyWife)... One paragraph in and I was already confused. Not hard to do.

"Aunt Esme & Aunt Alice???" What? Bella is all of a sudden their niece? WTF?!? Unless it's a spin-off of Twilight, or a dirtier Twilight...it just pisses me off and doesn't keep my attention. Am I too closely connected (obsessed) with the characters themselves?

For example, I read the "Unofficial Untitled Cont. of the Twilight Saga"....now that rocked! It follows the Cullen crew as they start another year at a new HS with Bella as a newborn Vampire, and Renesmee in boarding school... I also read "Blood & Lust"...pornographic? Yes! Panty moistening? Yes! But at least it followed the real story line. The author did a kick ass job on that one btw!

I guess it just comes down to the fact that I'm only interested in reading fan fic that depicts the Twi characters as closely related to their book/movie personas as possible...otherwise I get irritated & move one.

Please comment, I'm anxious to hear what you have to say. And, LatchkeyWife, if you're still speaking to me...I'd really like to hear your take on it all.

XO J

  7. *waves at Aristionio Nugroho* Oh. Wait. He left the building. LMFAO!!

Okay, kiddo. I hear you, and I agree with you. I started Wide Awake and CW&IA and gave up early (ducking). For me, the thought of reading something that has so many chapters is just too daunting. I stumbled on to one-shots when I was bookmarking Wide Awake and skimming the first chapter. That's when I fell down the ff rabbit hole, never to be heard from again.

The best part about the fanfiction site is that you can really be specific when searching for stories to read. You can narrow it down by genre (Twilight), by specific characters/pairings (Edward/Bella, Edward/Bella/Jasper, Edward/Jasper [she said that]), by rating (bring on the lemons), etc.

I have stopped worrying about the massive amounts of recs that are suggested in the bloggy universe because it was driving me crazy thinking I was going to miss out on something.

You know what you like, Jen, so try out a narrow, specific search and see what you run across. And I'm telling you, the one-shots are great reads and not so much of an investment of your time.

So after I said all of that, I do have a great rec if you are interested in a story that is written from Rob's POV if that trips your trigger.

  8. Seriously. I think I just wrote a one-shot comment. It took me so long that you and Mrs. P were able to have a conversation while I was typing. That's why I'm hardly ever the first commentor on a blog. Sorry if I triggered your scrollitis.

  10. @LISA LMFAO! Thanks!...Ok so wear do i go to scroll and narrow thru ff options?

@Mrs. P You've never seen an admin delete? Well have you ever had someone preach the Koran? LOL, I'm afraid to get on a plane now. Shit, my Foorrrkkks idea might be screwed if that little f*cker follows me!

  11. @Mrs. P - I'm glad you keep putting up with me. XXXOOO

  12. Oh fuck...this is funny shit. I couldn't sleep and I wandered in here and I'm so glad I did.

  13. @Lisa Um...so I'm allowed like 3 blonde moments a day right? Pertaining to my previous question... I'm assuming I go to the "fan-fiction" site and it must have a search box/filter right?

I'm almost scared. It's not like my morning, day & night aren't filled with enough twi-insanity as it is. Adding more to that could quite possibly have me committed.

  14. OMG....@MrsP & @Lisa...I had no idea fan fic was an actual website with a search engine. I'm screwed now. It gives me control to search for what I want (and I dig control!)...like u said @Lisa...

Rob help me now....I may disappear down said Rabbit Hole.

  15. Jen, is Mrs. P still laughing at me?! Tell her to stop.

1 - Go to fanfiction.net and login (assuming you already have an account; if not, you need to register for one)

2 - In the blue bar across the top, click on the FanFiction.net link in the lh corner.

3 - Just below the blue bar are the navigation links. "Search" is the last one on the right. Click on it.

4 - At some point, you will get a full-page advertisement. Just click "Skip" to the right to get past it.

5 - Now you're in the search field. Type "Twilight" in the keywords field.

6 - That will bring up the menus to the far right where you can get really specific.

    7 - Category: Twilight

    8 - Language: English

    9 - Genre: Your choice.

10 - Character: Your choice. However, once you pick one, say Edward, then another menu will open up so you can pick a second character (pairings).

    11 - Status: Your choice.

12 - Word Length: Your choice.

Once you do that, you will see your Narrow Results just above the menu boxes. Click on any blue X if you change your mind and pick a new one.

Then just start skimming the story summaries to see what sounds interesting to you.

Good luck, and let me know how it goes. You can always email me.

  16. @Lisa...Thx, you are always so helpful! I started skimming...had to laugh at some. Can't wait to narrow down my search. (Not sure about Mrs. P...though I could have sworn I heard her choke...jk)

I'll check it out thoroughly tomorrow. I can barely keep my eyes open now. Good night Mrs. P, good night Lisa.

  17. @Twired Jen - hm, the only thing I can say is that it really sucks for you. No, really. You're missing out on this whole wonderful world and its benefits. But then again, I thought the same as you before I started reading The Office (it popped my cherry), and suddenly, I had no problem getting into stories of Bella and Edward as humans. Good like with the site. The possibilities there, are endless, LoL.

How did you get a "read Koran" follower? Hope he doesn't spread.

  18. I agree. Unless the stories totally follow the story line I don't like to read them. I like the continuation of the stories post BD and I like some that authors have written that are back stories to the characters. There is one that is the history of Alice and Jasper.

    ReplyDelete
  19. @Nocona..might have to check out the back stories and continuations..those sound more interesting to me ;)

  20. @Twired Jen Have you read Dark Side of the Moon? It's like the Midnight Sun version of New Moon. It also drags on a little bit like New Moon but I really liked it and since it follows the characters to a tee you might like it.

    http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4273193/1/

My only other fanfic fav in the vampire/full twilight character section is Seducing Ms. Swan about what happens if Edward didn't come back in New Moon and then a few years later they met up as teacher and student. She says to him all the things we are all thinking in New Moon.

Hope this helps. Or you could just enjoy not being into fanfic. Maybe your life without it is fulfilling enough ;)
Btw, I LOVE my 30's. I think woman get more confident as they get older and that is a beautiful thing.

  21. @twilightcupcake...THANK YOU. I will check them out. I read one this morning that I really enjoyed...it was short enough to keep my attention...@MamaCougar reco, mended it. I will def check out your suggestions!

  22. @Jen - What's this? You went from "I Can't Get Into Fan Fiction" to reading it this morning?! Welcome to the rabbit hole ;)

    ReplyDelete
  23. @Lisa...yes, it happened. Because YOU my dear made me aware that there is actually a site where you can search/narrow down to specifics. I had no idea. I thought people were just randomly finding stories...Now I know the truth! ;)
